ANLUS welcomes Advocate Sudip Giri (LLM-Kathmandu School of Law and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nepal) along with Advocate Raju Ram Silawal (LLM-Kathmandu School of Law) to United States during their short visit in the US. They are attending American Bar Association’s Mid-Year Meeting to be held in Los Angeles, CA starting February 07 until 12th. Both, as leading Criminal Justice Jurists and Law Scholars from Kathmandu School of Law shall be exclusively attending the Forum and Sessions related to Criminal Justice. Advocate Giri, points out the need to better understand the Criminal Justice System of the United States and the Prison Reform system. Both visited Golden Gate University-School of Law and interviewed fellow law students from Nepal as well.

Advocate Giri also aims at receiving cooperation from Police Department and Public Defender’s Office for a possible visit to the California Prisons for better acquaintance of the subject matter. Likewise, Advocate Silawal stressed for the need of scholarship oppertunities for Nepalese Law students in the US and is excited about the positive scholarship environment being developed in various law schools in the US.

Both lawyers intend to submit a detailed report on criminal justice, penal reform, prison conditions and legal development in the relevant arenas. The report shall be presented to Kathmandu School of Law. Their visit has been highly acknowledged by the legal community in Nepal as a possible bridge connecting Nepalese and US Criminal Justice lawyers. It should be noted that Yuwaraj Sangraula, Director of Kathmandu School of Law also wants to develop strong ties with US Law schools and American Bar Associaton.
